The ball for this fund started rollin’ when we received a call from a gentleman in OR regarding an injured police dog that needed a dog wheelchair. His daughter, Calen, upon meeting Kline, instantly fell in love and built a bond with this German Shepherd who basically drags his rear end around, due to an injury that occurred four years ago. Here is their story.

Calen started raising money for Kline, and before she knew it, she had raised over $2500.00 for him. She also received 3 dog wheelchairs, donated by folks that didn’t need them anymore. Calen is 11.

The very same day, I received another phone call from a woman in MN who adopted our friend Meyer, the Wiener on Wheels. Aimee is a lover of animals and helps not only our beloved pets, but our physically disabled human friends as well. She takes Meyer to the local hospital, to the rehab center, to inspire and cheer. Aimee has a huge heart as well, and said, “Let’s start a fund of our own, and help those in desperate situations.” Me, being the busy Mom, business owner, and still a job holding individual, said ” I will look into that when I get some time.” Aimee, apparently, after only a few phone conversations with me, had figured me out. She knew I wouldn’t do it right away. She didn’t accept my answer and said, “Do it!”

And that’s how Second Chances was born. I got up early this morning before the kids awoke, sat down at the computer with a cup of coffee, and started typing. No over-thinking it.

We have set up this fund for particularly special cases including rescues, those waiting adoption in foster homes, and special cases like Kline, who protect us everyday. As long as the funds are available, we will spread the love as far as it will go, by providing wheelchairs for dogs in need.

Part of the reason why I hesitated on starting this project was because I DO NOT want to turn people away who really can’t afford a dog wheelchair. This will be the hardest part of this project. It breaks my heart to hear that a dog will have to be put down because the funds simply aren’t available to provide a second chance.

Please be generous in your donations, as there are more cases out there than we know what to do with.

Thank you so much, Calen, and Aimee, for your inspiration on this project. Let’s help some dogs get a second chance!

Sincerely,
Sierra Christofferson
