Last February, I was able to fly down to L.A. to meet Tumbelina and to participate in the Compassion for Animals adoption event. The event was being held by Saving K9 Lives, out of Encinitas, CA. and was to help raise awareness for special needs pets and to help them get adopted! Tumbelina was rescued by Valley Cats, Inc. out of Van Nuys, CA. Valley Cats rescued her from a high kill shelter with Cerebellar Hypoplasia, a non-progressive, non-contagious neurological condition that results in walking and balance problems. Her cerebellum, the part of the brain that controls fine motor skills and coordination, was underdeveloped at birth, and in most cases requires the use of a full support cat wheelchair, as it usually affects all muscle control in all four legs. Tumbelina wasn’t feeling very good the day we met her, as she was having an adverse reaction to her vaccinations. But we were able to place her and fit her in her own custom built dog (cat) wheelchair. Shortly after this video was made, a viewer from Georgia fell in love with her and made the trip across the US to adopt her and take her into her loving home!
In past years, we have built a number of wheelchairs for cats! As seen here, a cat receives a special harness to keep from wriggling out, because we all know a cat can be an escape artist! But this cat, Tobias, is able to get kitty scratches from his box. A cat wheelchair is no different than a dog wheelchair, besides the special front harness. If you are interested in placing an order for a cat, all you have to do is follow the same instructions as you would for a dog wheelchair. Here is a link to the rear support page. SHOP NOW
